Good morning ...its MAY DAY!...no one celebrates it any more...I remember when I was in grade school...we would all dress our best (Sunday school clothes) I would always get to where my Easter dress that day for school...all would troupe up to the high school and put on a program of singing and dancing around the May Pole...they had streamers hanging down and the lucky chosen few would get to grab one and dance around inter twining it until the whole pole was covered..with beautiful pastel ribbon...our parents were invited to this program...it was a very exciting and happy day for us kids spring was breaking and we were outside in the middle of a school day…it couldn’t get any better...I just read somewhere that some celebrated by making up small baskets with goodies and then running up to the porch of friends and leave and get away before you were caught...ahhh the good old days...I did get chosen one year to wrap the ribbons..
Pic’s are from the web…the one on top looks a lot like the one we had in the 1950’s …the one below just looks pretty so I though I would post it…we had pretty pastel ribbon just like it…anyone else have May Day memories???
Thanks for looking and come back soon…blessings to all G&M
In Europe May Day was the original Labor Day and it was passed on to the North American Labor Unions. Every May Day there was a parade down Main Street. The practice no longer takes place. That was a special thing for me because it fell on my birthday.

It's about time.
I love May Day too and wish we still did the celebrations. I love the pretty colored May Pole ribbons. May Day is actually an ancient Holiday called Beltane and is the mid day between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice. We are half way to summer already. Seems like it was just winter.
