SESQUICENTENNIAL PARK PART 2

The trail starts here…
at the 27 acre lake…I would call it more like a big pond…any way it is nice…got a good reflection pic…There are a lot of geese and ducks begging for food…are not much afraid of dogs…and Maggie ignored them…strange..

After staying the night I decided I wanted another day..so when I went to the office the next day to pay I ask about any walking/hiking trails…he said there was a nice 2 mile one that goes around the lake…so we took a look and went for the walk…This paved walk starts the trail just down from the Ranger office…..
2013-09-20_10-16-37_531
The paved walk leads to this new bridge across the mouth of the lake…Maggie was in the lead and walked right up and across the bridge…at one point in time she was a little leary of bridges..
2013-09-20_10-28-00_61
Soon after the pavement turned into this part dirt and something that looked a little like black loose black top…Nice and shady…lot of pretty green foliage …but no wild life…

Another bridge and Maggie waiting for me to catch up..she is not off leash..just a long one…I would never let her off leash…worry that something would jump out and grab her…she is just a little tasty morsel for some big bad thing that lives in the woods…like a bear…grrrr

Just to prove ….
that I seen some interesting things along our hike…here is a pic of the lake with a ton of pretty little water lilies…click to see better….they were all white ones…
2013-09-20_10-33-06_999
and on this 2 mile hike I seen one yes 1 mushroom…what is with that…a whole big state park forrest and I see ONE mushroom!!! How do you all see the wonderful things you post about…me thinks my eyes need more practice …
2013-09-20_10-52-52_650
And one thing I think was interesting was this cute little pine tree…I have seem baby pines in PA but they didn’t look like this…sweet..

It was really…
treat for me from camp WM…but I think I have a lot to learn…from more learning about the rig to…how to travel…among other things..but that is a whole other post and before I end this adventure at Sesquicentennial Park..I have to tell you…you all know that everyone has to have “the incident” ..you know the one…at the dump station?…well I had mine I will spare you all the gory details…lets just say again I was not paying attention …only lost about a cup on my gloved hand and a little here and there before I recovered my senses and got it together …hosed it all off..anyway now I am done with that and can now move on…lol..This all was on Sat. so next post will be Sat night into Sun after I left the park to move on south…thanks for looking and come back soon…Blessings G&M

THIRD DAY…

Sesquicentennial State Park…
After leaving the WM parking lot… I went in search of this park…since it was only about 1 mile away it wasn’t hard to find..being the off season it was fairly empty…the sites look level but the roots make it a problem in most of the sites…this is a pull thru that I finally settled on…did some back and forth but go it good enough,,.lot of shade…
004
This is the other side close to the woods…got set up with a few things..not a full set up only staying 2 days…
002
We are in SC now so there is lot of sand put this little matt out to keep it out of the rig …did not have room for the big one anyway…had to get this close to the table in order to be level and a close to the hook ups….sat out here with Maggie this afternoon reading and watching for nature things but didn’t see a thing..not even a bird…
007
pic below is looking down the loop that I am in…one tent and trailer is all that seem to be around…and they are gone all day…so it is really quiet here..only thing I don’t understand is all the cars that come in during the day and drive around…every 5 min they come and drive the loops…and leave…there are rangers all over the place and camp host ..so not sure what is going on…Getting much warmer as we move south…
006
Friday night more campers started showing up…looks like it will fill up for the weekend…I am going to be leaving in the morning (Sat.) Not sure how far I will get maybe will hit GA or maybe not… This morning Maggie and I took a long nature walk around the lake…I will post about it tomorrow…thanks for looking and come back soon…blessings G&M

Camp Wal-Mart…

Second night out …..
after leaving Winchester and Mayberry…all night at Mayberry pain in my right thigh kept me from sleep…so I drove about 2 hrs.…and found a Wal-Mart so I could stop and figure what might be the problem …I have had problems with nerves in my feet and legs and back from an auto accident in 2003…fractured 1st lumbar vertebra left me with this problem..gets worse as time moves on…anyway…I think when I drove the  7hrs and over 300 miles (twice) and was sitting a lot…made my leg start up…this is a new problem…I did much walking and lying down at camp Wal-Mart.(that seemed to help it a lot)..there were a ton of stores to window shop in…below pic of camp WM..
001
Got there about noon..
and stayed until about 10 am the next day…while walking Maggie on her many walks around the parking lot and other places seen this cute guy on a tractor pulling some pretties…never seen a tractor like that  around my homestead…or have never seen a Wal-Mart decorate like this…very nice an pleasing to look at from a parking lot…
2013-09-19_07-16-37_555
Walked around ….
looking for a few geocaches…behind WM there was one nice mowed grassy area…woods on either side of the road…this was an easy park and grab (P&G)…usually seen these light post ones in a parking lot…
091913074309
Here is the cache…a pill bottle under the skirt on the light pole…these are seen in a lot of parking lots..
2013-09-19_07-08-39_414
Another few other things at WM a first for me was Carolina BBQ wings they had all the regular wings along with these…very tasty…not a first but WM now has their fall Pumpkin Rolls out…Mmmmm good…
After I left this WM camp….
I was not sure how far I would drive…so went on for a couple hrs. stopped had lunch took Maggie for her walk..looked at Next Exit book see an all night WM so headed for there…well kinda took a wrong turn could not find the WM so put WM in my GPS and found one about 5 miles away…got there sitting around in parking lot …decided to look for caches and looked at app on my phone and seen I was very close..(1 mile away) from Sesquicentennial State Park…have seen this on the map many times while traveling north and south on I-77..always wanted to check it out so..now is the time…So went there and that will be my next post…thanks for looking and come back soon … blessings G&M

SECOND LEG OF TRIP….

FIRST I WILL SHOW …..
you a few things that came along for the ride..first up is the desk…it did not fit in the dinette because someone measured wrong…geeeez I wonder who??…anyway we were able to bungee it to the sofa….hooked to the front seat belt and on the hinge of the sofa on the other end…I set my computer in there while we are driving along…
001
and sleeping in our bed with us..(much to Maggie's displeasure)…is a long skinny cupboard ..it is either a doctors cabinet or a old kitchen cabinet either way it is from the 1930’s….I didn’t show you before but when I get to dads I will take a pic….I need room for my stuff so I am bringing it along…
002
More on the trip…
Here is the first peak of the Blue Ridges Mountains after leaving Winchester…they sure look blue this morning…cloudy and cool…very uneventful driving the first couple hrs….kinda boring…
003
I was surrounded by trucks all day…I think the weekend driving is much better than during the week…
004
I am not sure…..
how well I am cut out to do this traveling alone..with out a co-pilot…I had a difficult time finding things to explore…it was either a zillion miles away from the highway, couldn’t find it or it was a dud…tried finding several different things…finally gave up…we stopped at a Pilot gas/truck stop..even that was a disaster…worst place I have ever seen for trucks…tight to get in and out of…I stopped there because of a Subway…seen many on the way until it was lunch time and then didn’t see any until this one…could not even find a place to sit and eat in the RV…so went on down the road…found a place in a parking lot…I can get two meals out of a $5 turkey sub,..
The campground….
I said before in the spring I was not going to come back here again Mayberry Campground in Mt Ariy…but I needed to dump my tanks and the way things went all day long I figured I better go where I knew I was going…but this will be the last time…first off to much money $31..for what you get…buy the pic you can see the lay out…Wi-Fi would not work..this is ATT land and nothing Verizon works…so this will not get posted until Wed. after I leave here…way way too much… chlorine in the water…on my budget it is not even good for an over night’er…
007
So now Maggie and I are sitting here waiting until bed time…I am doing this on Live Writer…and will post later..I guess I will see if I have any games on this computer I can play…and will map out my trip for Wed…I will use my Next Exit book…or maybe I will just wing it and take what ever comes along…lol..Well all for now thanks for looking and come back soon…blessings G&M
PS found some internet so posted at 1pm wed…

THE HEMMOCK NATURE TRAIL

More about our adventure last Sat. We went looking for the I Dream of Jeannie geocache we found it in this neat little park that led up to the ocean.

A small nature trail was there and it was all on a board walk so we took it. This is the start of the trail.
More of this lovely trail. These live oak trees are all over this south and a million or so in Florida I love them, no two even resemble each other. All twisted up every which way.
We did not see very much wild life on this trail. But seen lots of hidy holes where they could possible be .

The wild life we seen was mostly butterflies, with one squirrel running up a twisted tree. Was a little disappointed not seen much, but really liked all the great foliage.

I love all these twisted limbs. It is almost like walking thru a fairy land. Hmmm....... maybe a few fairy's in there.
A few pull offs where you could stop and rest and take in all natures beauty. Here is Maggie taking a break in her buggy. She is doing really good riding in it. She does not want any one or any thing like dogs, getting to close to it. Its her little cave and you better stay away . We were there about an hr taking time walking thru and checking everything out. Little did I know there are two geocaches in there. Dummy me did not check my smart phone to see if there were any. Oh well good reason to go back again. Since I will be late leaving Florida, I am going over today and walk around the mall looking for a dress to ware to the wedding. Just checking to see whats out there. Will be looking with my daughter on the way home. well that's it for now thanks for looking and come back soon,
